The brick extensions for Dash and Dot are perfect for someone who wants to add a little variety to the robots’ appearance. The toys are cute as they are but kids might get bored and want to mix it up a bit. The extensions allow you to add LEGO (or other compatible) blocks to Dash and Dot to turn them into animals, such as an elephant or a dog, or into vehicles such as an airplane. With a little bit of imagination and these connectors, Dash and Dot can become virtually any toy you can think of.

The brick extensions connect easily to the side of Dash and Dot’s heads and from there you just build. These robots already do so much and now limitless other possibilities have been added. They fit nicely and are never in danger of falling off of the robots. It works great with the sound recording feature because you can record animal or vehicle sounds to go along with your creation to add even more to the experience. I believe that if you already own Dash and Dot, you can’t pass this up. So much fun and so many possibilities. I give it 2 big thumbs up.

The launcher for Dash Robot is a nice little addition to an already great toy. The launcher comes with 3 balls to catapult and 6 targets to shoot at. The targets can be stacked and also can be used with LEGO to make the targets more challenging by adding them to structures that you build. Everything needs to be attached according to the lines on the robot and takes no time at all to snap on. The angle and velocity can be controlled from within the free apps(Google Play & iTues) that are normally used with Dash.

Even if Dash didn’t do all of the other cool stuff this would still be a very fun toy on it’s own. There’s no limit to the amount of trick shots you can come up with if you have a bit of creativity. One of the best parts is that although it can sling those balls quite far, there is never any danger of hurting anyone if it happens to hit them. The balls are lightweight and it’s neat the way Dash nods his head up and down in order to activate the launcher. I definitely recommend this accessory if your child is already an owner of the Dash Robot.

Wonder Workshop Dot Robotics Kit Review 2016

The Dot Robotics Kit is an excellent way for your child to learn beginner level coding. Dot can react to sounds, objects and its own movement if you tilt it and move it around. There are hundreds of things you can do with the Dot Robotics Kit, such as playing games like hot potato, magic 8 ball and even a fortune teller. Instructions aren’t needed because all of the learning occurs through the compatible apps that you download on your iOS or android device.(Check Compatibility)

First, I have to say that this is one of the cutest things I have ever seen, even if it does kind of look like a giant eyeball. Dot doesn’t move which is one of the few downsides but it’s still a ton of fun to play with. You can turn Dot into a light sword, a hot potato, a spaceship and can even make him launch things if you have the optional accessories. Make him sing and control his lights all from right within the apps. Everything is clearly explained in the tutorials and includes a challenge mode so you can start with the easy stuff and get into the harder stuff as you learn. The free play mode allows you take everything you’ve learned and do whatever your imagination can come up with.

The built in sensors make it so you can use it as an alarm if someone walks past or to make it start singing if you clap your hands. You can record your own sounds and make Dot say them if you pick it up or tilt it. I also love how strongly constructed it is. It’s very solid plastic so it can take the punishment that a young child will inevitably unleash upon it. The lights have several different patterns that can be controlled with the app as well.

One thing I was worried about was the security of having a toy connected to a device because of horror stories about other toys. The difference I that the Dot Robotics Kit doesn’t connect via Wi-Fi, it connects via Bluetooth, which means hackers can’t access it because it’s a direct connection between the robot and the device.

Dot is one of those toys that makes kids excited to learn new things. There is actually another robot named Dash that works in conjunction with Dot, so my honest recommendation is to get both. Dash can actually move around so that gives a little extra excitement. Dot is still great on it’s own and the apps are very easy to pick up and get right into. If you have a child that is curious about the unknown and how things work, then this toy will be a slam dunk. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase of the Dot Robotics Kit.

The accessories pack for your Dash and Dot robots are a great way to get a little extra enjoyment out of these already fantastic toys. Just like the robots themselves, the accessories pack is built extremely well so they should last as long as your robots do. Children can easily snap the pieces into place without any trouble. Some of the pieces are just for looks, such as the bunny ears and tail. Others add to what the robots, mostly Dash, can do. The bulldozer attachment works very well for pushing things around, especially small toys and building blocks. One clever idea is to mark off a section of your child’s room and challenge them to use the bulldozer accessory to push all of their toys in the allocated spot. This gets them to clean up their mess without realizing it because they’re having so much fun.

The tow hook is great for Dash to pull around other toys like cars or trucks and can even be added to dot and used with string if you want to hang it up or where it around your neck. Many of the functions can most likely be created with the brick extension kit but you need LEGO for it to work and it might get a bit complicated for kids to build. These work great out of the box and are a great addition to the already excellent Dash and Dot robots.

So, If you like it,just buy it.

Wonder Workshop Xylophone for Dash Robot Review 2016

The xylophone attachment for the Dash Robot is great for kids who like music and want to make their own and learn about composition. Everything is controlled from a free app called “Xylo”, available on the App Store or Google Play. It can be used along with the lights to create quite an elaborate show. The striker attaches to Dash’s head and it moves its head up and down to play notes on the xylophone. It sounds great and isn’t so loud as to get annoying, the sound is actually quite pleasant.

The Xylo app includes a number of songs that you can start playing right away or you can remix any of those songs in any way you like. You also have the option of creating your own songs from scratch. The types of songs you can create is a bit limited but there is still enough variety to create and endless amount of catchy tunes. This is one of those things that parents might catch themselves enjoying just as much as their children. Overall, this is a must have addition for anyone looking to expand the functionality of their existing Dash Robot. Highly recommended.

Wonder Workshop Dash & Dot Robot Wonder Pack Review 2016

The Wonder Workshop Dash & Dot Robot Wonder Pack promises to be a fun way for your child to learn. It includes two robots, named Dash and Dot, and some other accessories for added interactivity. The basic idea is that kids learn to code at an early age with easy to use coding apps that connect to the robots.

The first thing you should know is that you need an iOS or Android device in order to use the robots. It doesn’t matter if it’s a smartphone or tablet, although I recommend a tablet because the larger screen makes it much easier to use. If you only have a phone it will still work fine. There are a few apps you can download(Google Play & iTues) for free to start using with the Dash & Dot Robot Wonder Pack right away. Five to be exact.

Dash and Dot are each unique in their own way. Dash has wheels and can move around in multiple speeds and directions. Dot is stationary and is better suited to create games, such as hot potato and magic 8 ball, and to interact with Dash. Both robots include lights and sensors to detect objects and sounds.

The apps are very easy to use and range in complexity but even the more complex apps are still quite simple. You have a choice of “Go”, “Path”, “Xylo”, “Blockly” and “Wonder” apps to use with the Dash & Dot Robot Wonder Pack. Go is just a basic remote control app, Path allows you to draw a path on screen and dash will follow it, Xylo allows you to create songs on the included xylophone, and Blocky and Wonder are both coding apps. The coding apps come with challenges and tutorials so your child learns as they progress, starting from very easy tasks. They are drag and drop style to make it as learning friendly as possible.

You’ll most likely need to update the robots before use so it’s a good idea to do this before presenting the robots to your child, and also make sure to charge them fully. There is enough variety to keep your child entertained for a long time to come. The accessories add even more fun by allowing you to dress up the robots into animals or turn them into a bulldozer or tow truck. It even allows you to record your own sounds which is a nice touch.

My seven-year-old absolutely loves these toys. He’s always been the curious type and now he has the perfect device to allow him to learn while playing and I’m always amazed at the new things he’s able to make the robots do. Dancing, light shows, he even turned dash into a spy bot with the added smartphone attachment. I don’t think he’s touched another toy since he got the Dash & Dot Robot Wonder Pack and the way he’s going it might be a while before he does. The only downside is I wish the battery would stay charged just a little longer but overall I highly recommend this product.

Wonder Workshop Dash Robot Review 2016

The Dash Robot is an educational toy from Wonder Workshop. It’s one of the few educational toys that is actually fun for kids to play with and figure things out. There are 5 different apps you can use with the dash robot, all free to download on iOS and Android. It even won the Gold Award from National Parenting in 2015. It teaches kids the basics of coding in a way that’s fun and easy to learn. It’s loaded with sounds and sensors to help make it act like a real living thing and to provide many different ways to program it. Does it live up to the hype? Let’s find out.

For an educational toy to be successful it also has to be fun. There is no denying that the Dash Robot brings joy to the children who experience it. Besides, it doesn’t have to be educational, it works just fine as a regular toy for driving around the house via the remote control app. The thing about this robot is that most of the fun is actually the part where you learn. It’s a great time experimenting with all of the commands and linking them together to get Dash to perform all kinds of complex movements and actions.

Coding sounds hard but the way Wonder Workshop has added it to the Dash Robot makes it super easy even for younger children, and packs in enough challenge and variety for older kids and those who are more advanced. The coding apps “Blockly” and “Wonder” allow the user to make use of all of the movements, sounds, lights, and sensors to allow Dash to move around objects, dance, speak or even just drive around aimlessly if you want.

The apps use different commands that you can drag and drop and link together for endless fun. By using the Wonder app, you can even save your commands right on the Dash Robot, meaning you wont need the phone or tablet the next time you play with it. The commands can be activated by a timer or even by sounds.

I should mention that Dash also has an optional companion named Dot. Dot doesn’t move but can add a lot of interactivity with Dash, and can even be used as a trigger to events when Dash sees him. The Dash Robot is also highly durable, as it should be when designed for younger children. The sensors even allow it to detect objects so it avoids them instead of bumping into them. You even get some starter blocks that you can build upon with LEGO to change the look of Dash or build a catapult to shoot LEGO blocks. There are so many more features that I can’t list them all here.

 Is it Worth a Purchase?

Short answer, yes. It’s not easy to find an educational toy that your child actually enjoys. The Dash Robot accomplishes this wonderfully. By using the 5 free apps there are an unlimited number of coding options available so you never run out of things to do. The battery charge isn’t the longest but it’s long enough for an extended play session. I highly recommend the Dash Robot to any parent with a young, and even a not so young, child.

Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Pack Review 2016

The Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Pack is an excellent way for kids to code while having a great time playing with robots. They’ll be having so much fun they won’t even realize they’re playing with an educational toy. Make your robots do all types of movements and sounds and much more with the free and easy to use apps on iOS and Android devices.

My son has been wanting these robots for a while now and when he finally got them his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. I made sure to update and charge both Dash and Dot before giving them to him so he could start playing right away and not have to wait. He started playing with the remote control app called “Go” first but quickly gave it up to dive into the good stuff, the coding apps. There are two free coding apps available for use with the robots, called “Wonder” and “Blockly”. Both offer a wide variety of functions program onto the robots for many different effects.

You can record your own sounds, create light shows, make a catapult, even put on a complex dance show. There really is quite an amazing variety of things you can do, you can even use the robots to code your own games. The coding apps don’t require any previous knowledge, they’re very child friendly and offer tutorials that gradually increase in difficulty so your child can learn at their own pace.

You can link together different commands to get them to do just about anything you can think of and they are made of very durable plastic so you don’t have to worry about them getting dropped and broken. They also have sensors built in to prevent them from running into large objects. The Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Pack works best on a hard floor but work perfectly fine on short carpet as well.

Everything is done through visual coding, which means you can select a command from a list and add it to the other commands already selected. When you link them together you can use many different things to trigger the action, such as a timer or even clapping your hands.

I thought this was just for kids but recently when my son was sleeping I decided to mess around with it a bit to see what I could come up with. Hours later I had to force myself to turn it off or I would have been up all night. It’s very fun to play with and I had that thing zipping around all over the place, lights flashing and everything. I felt like a kid again and even learned a thing or two. I can’t recommend the Wonder Workshop Dash and Dot Robot Pack enough, especially if you have a very curious child like I do. You won’t be disappointed.
